Re: Cell phones
I know I have a rubbish one, and not much else.
Phones are not my best point when it comes to tech, although with most of the rest, I know my stuff

Re: Cell phones
Having the Internet is definitely good thing. Without it I wouldn't know as much about the cell phones as I do.

Re: Cell phones
IOS 7 comes out this fall for iPhones for, for S, five, and five s. iOS 7 will have plenty of new features including something called voice over cellular. If you have an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad if there new enough anyways, you can do Something called face time. Face time is a video call for iOS devices. Face time has something called voiceover cellular on it. What that does is it makes sound quality a lot better than it was before. If you have an iPhone, when iOS 7 comes out, is then that you will be able to have voice over cellular for phone calls which will make them sounded clear. No more calls that sound like calls. No I mean? But I'm not sure when it comes out for countries besides America all I know is that it comes out this fall for America. So if you do not live in America then you might want to check on that.

Re: Cell phones
There are two different kinds of radio frequency systems for cell phones. I am not exactly sure of the frequencies but the two kinds of systems are GSM and CDMA. There are a couple of differences between these two. Number one, with GSM, it is much easier to switch cell phones. There's some number called an ESN but I'm not quite sure what that stands for. So An ESN is a number that in GSM is tied to a Sim card which is inside of your cell phone. So if you have a GSM-based carrier, then to switch phones you simply take the Sim card out of your phone and put it in any other unlocked GSM phone. But with CDMA things get more complicated. This ESN is tied to the phone directly. Which makes it much harder to switch phones. Because you have to contact your carrier and do a lot of different things to switch phones. And CDMA-based carriers have different kinds of networks. I will give you two examples of CDMA-based carriers in the US and tried to use those to help explain. Sprint and Verizon are two CDMA-based carriers in the US. You cannot use sprints phones on Verizon's network because Verizon reject Sprint phones And vice versa. But Sprint and Verizon are big enough companies that they can just have custom phones built for them. But with GSM you do not need to have a phone made for you because GSM service will work with any GSM base phone. Number two, GSM stands for global system communications from mobile's and CDMA stands for code division multiple access. GSM is more widely used around the world. CDMA is used mostly in the United States and parts of Asia. But most of the rest of the World uses GSM including Europe. And also like I said in number one, in CDMA the ESN is tied directly to the phone, CDMA does not use SIM cards. Number three, with GSM when you're on a voice call you can do voice and data transmission at the same time Because it is part of the spec. But with CDMA well in the US at least when you are on a voice call you cannot usually do data transmission at the same time. It is an option but CDMA-based carriers in the US have not developed it yet. Well at least I No I can't do data and voice transmission at the same time On my phone.

Re: Cell phones
Okay, let's face it, we all have cell phones nowadays. On cell phones of course you can do voice calls and, Depending on your carrier, text messages.. But if you have a smart phone then you most likely also have something called data. And what data is is it's basically Wi-Fi except over cell phone towers. With data you can pretty much do anything that you can with Wi-Fi. Just in case you didn't know, Wi-Fi is wireless Internet. Without it you most likely would not be able to log on to this forum and less you were connected to an Internet source directly Using an ethernet cable. Oh and I will explain what tethering is in my next post.

Re: Cell phones
So, And the last post I explained about data. Well, with some carriers U R allowed to do something called tethering. Tethering basically means that you are using your cellular data to create a Wi-Fi network that other devices around you can connect to. So say I was at some place and I did not have wireless Internet access. All I had was my cellular data. If I had my phone and my laptop, I could create a free Wi-Fi network with my cellular data and connect to it whith my laptop. So that's basically what tethering is. But with my phone sadly I cannot tether. That is strictly prohibited.

Re: Cell phones
I've been tethering (or creating a portable hotspot, as most phones call it nowadays) for over a year now. I always do it when I'm away from home to connect my laptop or iPad to the Internet.

Re: Cell phones
Yeah I really can't do that with my phone as I said that tethering is prohibited. But, I usually use my data on my phone nomad or where IM because there's two places I am most and both have horrible Wi-Fi network.Steven26 wrote:I've been tethering (or creating a portable hotspot, as most phones call it nowadays) for over a year now. You better not go to the city of Flint, that's in America where I live, without a cell phone. So much crime like it's more of a necessity Than an accessory.
